Decompose collection

Outlandish rulers of their own Kingdom, fungi and their fruit, mushrooms, have survived Earth’s extinction events, are recyclers and regenerators capable of cleaning oil spills, whose existence allows for the existence of all other life. Flaunting fantastical and subtle palettes with complicated, unearthly structures, fungi and mushrooms are, incredibly, both the largest and the smallest living organisms on earth. As highlighted in the film Fantastic Fungi, mushrooms “can heal you, feed you, make you high, or kill you.” Fungi and mushrooms hold potential in fighting future pandemics due to their anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties — even textiles can be made from fungi. However, for Decompose collection, they are simply stunning inspiration for design.

Capable of dominating even in a concrete jungle, Decompose is destined for a NYC weekend of lunch, museums, drinks and dinner with friends, SS 2023. Decompose plays with lacy patterns, hypnotic folds, trailing fringes, flares, and billowing structures, alongside the bold yet natural color palettes of fungi and their fruit, mushrooms. Puffballs and the puckered under-structures of mushrooms inspire gathered voluminous forms and ruching patterns in neutral shades of white, cream and matte orange, while cutout patterns reference the cascading lace of Veiled Stinkhorn mushrooms. Flared, undulating structures paired with nerve-like patterns link to the underground mycelium communication networks of fungi. Woodgrain patterns and warm greens of Mossy Maze Polypore reference the relationship between the wooded forest floor and mushrooms, which recycle nutrients into the soil. Finally, the umbrella shapes and intricate folds of Indigo Milk Cap mushrooms inspire knife-pleating and bold blue colors, while the organic asymmetry of fungi and mushrooms are expressed within the designs.

Corset Blouse and Cutout Skirt

Puffball mushroom corset blouse with pleated voluminous sleeves, silk ribbon details and back lacing, and easy-entry side zipper tops a knee-length, cutout skirt that references Veiled Stinkhorn mushrooms

Tunic and Sheer Ruched Flare Pants

Umbrella shapes and folds of Indigo Milk Cap mushrooms inspire A-line, knife-pleated halter tunic, worn atop sheer, ruched, flared pants, emulating puckered under-structures

Single-shoulder Mushroom Lace Top and Ruched, Crosshatch Balloon Pants

Veiled Stinkhorn and Puffball mushrooms inspire single-shoulder mushroom lace top with integrated shelf bandeau, and ruched, crosshatch balloon pants, with woven military-style utility belt

Mossy Top and Sheer, Ruched Flare Pants

Lichen colors wash a flared, structured-hem top with straps suggesting nerve-like fungi mycelium networks. Sheer, ruched, flared pants emulate puckered under-structures of mushrooms

Sleeveless Hip Duster, Tiered Knife-Pleated Maxi Skirt, and Single-shoulder Mushroom Lace Top

Wooded forest floors inspire a sleeveless hip duster from woodgrain quilted pattern, while faux astrakhan trim emulates mycelium networks. Indigo Milk Cap mushrooms inspire a tiered, knife-pleated maxi skirt, which is paired with a single-shoulder mushroom lace top with integrated shelf bandeau
